About Chad Smith

Chad Smith has been providing Christian counselling to the Auburn and Opelika area for nearly eight years. Chad received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Psychological Studies in May of 1996. Chad SmithChad received his Master’s degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in May of 2000 with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. He is licensed with the State of Alabama as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Chad has worked in community mental health settings, managed care settings, and in private practice. He is also a consultant with Lee County Schools offering counseling, crises management, and behavior planning for students. He gives presentations on a regular basis to wide range of groups including: schools, church groups, mental health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, hospice, and NAMI. These topics include parenting, spiritual development, behavior management, ADHD, grief and support, and other mental health issues.

Description of theoretical orientation

Chad Smith provides a comprehensive array of services for couples and families. Chad is able to accommodate a diverse client population, Functioning as a practitioner current with Best Practices in his field, as well as a therapist with a strong commitment to Christian spiritual values. This unique combination of therapeutic skills within a spiritual framework enables him to work with families in a uniquely effective manner.

Chad Smith has spent extensive time working with families experiencing both behavioural and emotional problems with adolescents and children. His experience in directing the Lee County Court Early Intervention Program (CHINS) shaped his therapeutic approach toward family therapy and has provided him with extensive experience in the court system. The primary therapeutic goal is to empower the parents and to protect children through coaching families to maintain or create a healthy family system.
